This is my latest project, putting an LS1 engine and T56 6 speed transmission from a wrecked 2000 formula firebird into a 1988 Mazda RX7.
The RX7 arrived with a dead rotary, along with an LS1/T56 in the back of the F350.
Ready for the transplant.
The LS1 found a nice home in the corner for a few months.
The rotary on its way out.
Good riddance.
The LS1 and T56 are ready to go in.
Perfect time to stop for a photo.
Almost there.
Nice!
The reverse lockout solenoid and the transmission tunnel did not cooperate. It would have been a lot easier to "reshape" the tunnel if I hadn't already put the transmission in the way.
After giving the tunnel a good beating, the transmission is ready to be mounted.
I had to hack up the front of the hole for the shifter a bit. I didn't realize this until after the engine and trans were all the way in, so it isn't very neat. No big deal.
Sealed up the shifter area.
Test fitting the F-Body LS1 Radiator. The frame rails required some "modification".
Radiator from behind.
Dirty dirty engine bay... :)
Just enough room to squeeze a fan in there. I used joist hangers to mount the radiator.
